Tactical Controls will be presenting its’ Quality Assurance and Line Configuration System (Q.A.L.C.) at the Facilities Expo for the Central Valley on March 16 & 17.

The system is being used by companies to eliminate the possibility of mislabeled products reaching consumers. It utilizes a centralized database to extract product data to configure any Barcode Readers, Printers and Vision Systems on labeling lines and eliminates the risk of operator error. While the lines are in operation this system processes Barcodes in Real Time, up to 3000 units/Min, while calculating statistical information for each line. Wrong barcodes read are time stamped and logged to a Historical Database.

Please come and join us at the Facilities Expo – Central Valley, and let us showcase not only a great piece of technology, but an example of what our capabilities are as a systems integrator to you. Click on the graphic below to register for FREE.

The Quality Assurance & Line Configuration (Q.A.L.C.) System is set to be released in the next few weeks as a standard product offering from Tactical Controls.

Tactical Controls has developed a standard application used for production lines for any type of manufacturing plant. The system uses a centralized database to extract product data and configure Barcode Readers, Printers and Vision Systems on the labeling lines for operation. While the lines are operating the system is capable of processing barcodes in real time at speeds of up to 3000 Barcodes/Min and calculates statistical information on each line. Wrong barcodes read are time stamped and logged to a Historian Database.

In developing the Q.A.L.C. System, Tactical Controls main goal was to eliminate the possibility of a mislabeled product reaching the consumer. This system has state of the art tracking capabilities. If a wrong barcode is read it is time stamped and logged. The logging of the wrong barcodes allows any facility to isolate the product in their warehouse if a mislabeled product gets off the production line. The Q.A.L.C System allows reassurance to our customers that if for some reason the product gets onto a pallet it can easily be tracked and isolated in a warehouse minimizing the amount of product rework and most importantly production down time.

The Q.A.L.C. System is designed to be configurable to any facility without reprogramming the system. The application can be configured to run any number packaging lines. Each production line can accommodate any number of barcode readers, printers, vision system, and other production line devices. Users configure the system using a maintenance screen to enable or disable lines as needed. Each production line can be independently named to allow for a tailored system to the plants’ specifications.

The system is designed using off the shelf software, Wonderware, to allow for system maintenance and upgrades. The open software platform allows our customer employees to maintain and update the system without having to call Tactical Controls for all modifications.

Tactical Controls has paid close attention to the needs of its manufacturing customers and has put together a system that is flexible. Many custom interface drivers have been developed for communications to a wide array of barcode readers and printers. New drivers can be added if a customer has a device on the packaging line that is not currently supported by our system.

This system uses a custom product database that allows operators to select the product to run on the line. When a line is to have a product change over, the operator selects the product from a dropdown list. A confirmation screen is displayed which shows the operator the product information that will be downloaded to ensure the correct product was selected. After the final confirmation the system then communicates to all the devices on the packaging line to remotely configure them.

Please take a look at the Q.A.L.C. Product card for more information on the system, and feel free to contact Tactical Controls if you have any technical questions.

PRODUCT CARD

Tactical Controls Honored for Barcode, Printer, & Vision System application.

Tactical Controls/Campbell’s Soup Company were recently awarded Best Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence (EMI) Application by Wonderware at the Invensys OpsManage 09 Conference.

At the recent Invensys OpsManage 09 Conference held in Anaheim, CA, Tactical Controls, LLC in conjunction with Campbell’s Soup Company were chosen as a contest winner for the Wonderware Open 2009 Competition. Among many applicants and great ideas from all across North America, Tactical Control’s Barcode, Printer, & Vision System entry was chosen as the Best Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence (EMI) Application of 2009.

The Wonderware Open award was designed to recognize developers for their noteworthy Wonderware-based solutions that enable innovation for real-time operational excellence. Application entries focused on performance management based on or integrated with Wonderware software. Entries were judged upon through several different areas including:

Production Performance

Reporting/Aggregation

Quality

Traceability

Downtime

OEE

KPI

The Barcode, Printer and Vision System Application is used for Quality Assurance and Line Configuration for Labeling Lines at Campbell Soup Supply Company. The main goal for Campbell Soup Supply Company’s standpoint was to eliminate the possibility of a mislabeled product which could get out to the consumer. Through this application we are able to develop a standard industry solution.

The system uses a centralized database to extract product data and configures Barcode Readers, Printers and Vision Systems on the labeling lines for operation. While the lines are operating the system processes Barcodes in Real Time, up to 3000 Barcodes/Min, and calculates statistical information on each line. Wrong barcodes read are time stamped and logged to a Historian Database.

The Barcode, Printer & Vision System was designed to be configurable by each plant without reprogramming the system. Each production line can be independently named to allow for a tailored system to the plants’ specifications. This system has state of the art tracking capabilities. Many custom interface drivers have been developed for communications to a wide array of Barcode Readers and Printers. The system uses off the shelf software, Wonderware, to allow for system maintenance and upgrades.

Excerpt from the Wonderware Press Release:
The “Best Manufacturing Intelligence Application” awarded to Campbell Soup highlighted the company’s improvements in barcode, printer and vision system applications. The new system supported by Wonderware technology enabled the company to discover gaps in its quality system and reduced labeling issues by 97 percent. The solution saved Campbell’s approximately $250,000 in engineering costs, and can be easily deployed to other Campbell’s plants without the need for recoding.
“The adoption of the scanning technology has been hugely successful,” said Ann Gasiorek, Campbell Soup Worldwide Quality.

All submitted entries were judged by a panel composed of members of the press, industry analysts and members of the Wonderware Sales and Marketing group.

We are thrilled here Tactical Controls to continue to thrive and excel as a leading developer in the manufacturing industry and that our accomplishments have been able to gain praise and admiration from our peers, it’s a great compliment to our engineering staff.
